Equality in regards to technology within education shouldn’t be an issue any of our students face. Most schools have at least one up to date computer lab. Technology is integral as it transcended race, gender, nationality, socio-economic stats and many other mitigating factors. However, divergence of home access has never been more prominent. Fifty percent of students have claimed they were unable to complete homework assignments because they lacked the Internet or Computers.
Technology is meant to shorten or eliminate the learning divide. Yet, in regards to Socio-economic status this claim becomes invalid as, eighty-eight percent of respondents to a DigitalEquity study stated that affordability was the largest obstacle for families lacking Internet access at home.

According to the image below educators and administrators bear the responsibility of providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources. And these students should have: Up-to-date hardware, software and connectivity. Teachers should also be trained of the usage of digital tools and resource. Systems need to sustainment through a unified vision and support by leaders. And, lastly content should be meaningful, high quality, and culturally responsive.
Nearly Four billion dollars annually are dedicated to improving Internet access to schools, yet the digital divide still remains: Five million households with school aged children do not have high speed Internet service at home. Low-income households and especially black and Hispanic homes make up a disproportionate share that 5 million. Seventy-five percent of school systems surveyed do not have any off campus strategies for providing connectivity to students at home and afterschool.
